My daughter Ava recently turned 11, so it was time to ditch the pale pink walls and Build-A-Bear wardrobe for something a bit more grown up.
I let Ava loose on Pinterest, which of course, I instantly regretted, the ‘boho’ themes she was leaning towards included a jungle of plants and giant swing seats in vast loft spaces. All lovely in theory, but as my Instagram handle suggests, our house is not on the larger side and Ava has the smallest bedroom. We used these as a starting point to create our own look and theme.
Being my daughter (style obsessed) and 11 going on 21, she had a LOT of ideas. Ava chose white walls and wanted some trailing plants on shelves. After a few coats of white paint (Dulux brilliant white of course, the husband swears by it!) we had a great blank canvas to work with. Our main colour palette for this room was white, with a mixture of greens: teal, mint, aqua and then small pops of coral and pink running through.
Before….
…and After of Ava’s desk space.
We were reusing all her existing furniture with the only ‘big’ new things to buy being shelves and a desk chair. We picked these up in IKEA, I love the simplicity of the shelves and the way the plants pop out of the white.
The white plant pots, plants and cactuses are a mix of faux and real from IKEA also, we chose these purposely for ease of care. It’s a great sunny spot so the cactus and succulent should thrive. The cute smiley cactus lamp is from @molts_lighting and gives off a gorgeous ambient glow when switched on.
This swivel desk chair from Ikea is fabric covered, so great for homework (and web browsing) sessions. The cushion that sits on the chair was bespoke made in this fabulous monstera patterned fabric from @greyfoxandwren, the Pom Pom trim adds such a great finishing touch. The faux cactus you see sitting on the radiator is from @fakeitflowers, the cotton ball lights from @cottonballlights_uk.
Because the walls were white, we wanted a ‘feature’ to break it up, we chose these fabulous decal stickers from @happydecs ~ so easy to apply that Ava did it herself! They just peel off when you’re bored, a truly great product.
The art we chose for the room reflects the colour theme and style and this ‘Dream Big’ print from @junie_poonie sits perfectly above the bed. The duvet cover is from @juniqeartshop, with matching notepad of course! You can get any of the featured artists’ designs at juniqe.co.uk printed onto cushions, duvets covers, stationery etc. A brilliant way to create something that isn’t mainstream.
A new bedroom and duvet deserves new crisp white sheets and pillowcases and these 100% organic cotton beauties are from @my_littleleaf, that were so beautifully gift wrapped too (great baby shower/wedding present idea!) littleleaforganic.com is also certified by the UK Soil Association and all their products are produced in compliance with the Global Organic Textiles Standard.
We created this gallery wall feature using this white multi frame from IKEA, with a selection of prints from @junie_poonie, @desenio, and @slaymyprint
This London illustration is by talented illustrator Jessica Hogarth, the colour scheme was just made for this room and so apt for Ava being a little Londoner! We ordered the tissue poms from Ebay.
This amazing monochrome striped fabric lampshade was bespoke made by @cheekypickleshades, and yes, more pompoms! but don’t the colours on this just pop out?
We’ve picked up some mega cute accessories along the way including these cute Koala pots/vases from @sourcelifestyle, the Flamingo socks and green sheepskin rug featured are from sourcelifestyle.com too. Arrow print is @junie_poonie and bluetooth wooden speaker/DAB radio is @myvquk. The sequin cactus cushion that features on the bed is Primark.
I hope you like Ava’s new bedroom, she sure does!

Stunning transformation Amy and great that you’ve listed the products used. Loving that lampshade!! Ava must be so happy with such a beautiful and creative space to call her own. I must investigate the Pom Pom lights more closely and maybe invest in a set……..or two. Well done to both of you and keep up the good work!!
