A few months ago my little family and I were lucky enough to be invited* to stay at The White House, in Norfolk. Tucked away in a picturesque farm valley between Brancaster Beach and Burnham Market, The White House is a hidden gem within easy reach of the wide open beaches of the North Norfolk Coast.

As soon as we walked through the door we were met with an air of calm, from the stunning interior decor to the relaxed vibe, getting away from busy London had never felt better. The lush reception rooms have rich colours, sumptuous velvet sofas, specially commissioned work by Norfolk artists and light streaming in through huge period windows.

The building itself is Georgian, it’s owners, Mark and Alison started renovating the house in August 2016. They were careful to save and to replace as many original features as possible, bringing it back to its former glory. The renovation has been completed with flair and imagination, whilst being sympathetic to the house and its history. Every room oozes a beautifully understated luxurious feel.

There are twelve beautiful bedrooms in total, we stayed in The Sussex Suite. Set over two levels, it has a sitting room (with pull out beds for the children/extra guests) and shower room on the ground floor. Upstairs the accommodation boasts a romantic bedroom with vaulted ceiling, velvet chaise longue and a roll-top freestanding bath.

Each tranquil bedroom has been individually decorated with style, vintage pieces have mixed with modern retro interior accessories. The bathrooms, many with freestanding baths, and all with rain showers are stocked with 100 Acres products.  There’s also a delectable breakfast buffet spread, absolutely worth getting up for! With a scrumptious choice of locally sourced, home cooked breakfasts. There’s also a thoughtfully stocked Honesty Bar. The property can be hired either, by room, or you can rent the whole house for weddings or large family gatherings.

With so much to do in Norfolk, and once we’d dragged ourselves away from our stunning home for the weekend, we set about exploring. First up, was the amazing Wells-next-the-Sea, the vast sandy beach is flanked by the most amazing display of colourful wooden beach huts, this is easily one of the prettiest beaches we’ve found in England.

Next up was Burnham Market, a unique traditional Georgian village. It’s a bit like stepping back in time, and is a favourite haunt of many celebrities. It lies just two miles from Brancaster Beach and six miles from Wells-next-the-Sea, and is close to several renowned nature reserves. Around the village green, you will find boutique and antique shops, eateries and galleries interspersed with charming cottages.

Right in the heart of Burnham Market, is No.Twenty9 Bar & Restaurant. We were invited* as guests to sample the mouth-watering menu. Situated in a Georgian Grade II listed property dating back to the 18th century, it features original fireplaces, stripped floors, a stunning glass open wine cellar and quirky murals adorn the walls. The menu, created by award-winning chef, Jeremy Parke, is based around fresh, locally sourced ingredients cooked on an open wood fired fire-pit.

The fire pit or ‘flambadou’ as it’s known, is on show for all to see, this style of cooking is very theatrical, so it’s great to see it all happening. All the dishes on the menu have been created by cooking the ingredients with fire: grilling over embers, smoking, dipping into the fire and iron branding, giving everything an amazing subtle smoky taste. We dined on such treats as slow-cooked over the fire lamb, scallops cooked in the shell, hot-smoked pork belly and ember-cooked local lobster. No.Twenty9 has also recently opened six stunning boutique bedrooms, situated through the pretty courtyard, at the back.

There’s so much to do in Norfolk, whilst being foodie heaven, there are more than enough places to visit and things to do. We visited stunning Holkham beach, dined at The Hero in Burnham and bird-watched at Burnham Overy Staithe, to name just a few of our little family adventures.

Unfortunately, We didn’t have chance to visit them all, but we do plan to! We can’t wait to return to North Norfolk, and explore everything this amazing county has on offer.
